This intimate student apartment in a Krakow tenement building, originally from the resale market, has undergone a comprehensive transformation. The renovation was preceded by a series of formalities and permits typical of this type of building. The entire project was designed with everyday comfort and aesthetics in mind, combining the owner’s eclectic inspirations. A subtle retro vibe permeates the entire apartment. From the outset, we knew this would be the perfect student apartment , combining modernity with the owner’s vintage furniture, giving the design a fresh, contemporary touch.
The kitchen evokes cozy, Southern European interiors. Light green cabinetry, a wood-effect countertop, delicately patterned tiles, and a retro refrigerator create an atmosphere of warmth and homely comfort. Instead of altering the layout, we focused on maximizing the available space: high cabinetry, a functional cooking area, and a comfortable table that serves as a meeting point. We also considered the option of concealing the washing machine in the kitchen behind a curtain—a solution often found in apartment buildings, especially those adapted as practical student accommodation .
Despite its small size, the bathroom gained a fresh and uncluttered look thanks to light-colored tiles extending to the ceiling, chrome fixtures, and a functional shower enclosure. Bricking up the former kitchen window allowed for a better definition of the space and greater privacy, while remaining in complete harmony with the rest of the apartment.
The bedroom is a calm, sensual space in shades of lavender and purple. We utilized an existing alcove to create bookshelves, and the fold-out bed and absence of a TV enhance the atmosphere of peace and relaxation essential in the busy life of a student. This interior, though small, perfectly reflects the ideal private space in a student apartment .
The living room combines various functions: storage, relaxation, study, and meeting with guests. By moving the door (within the existing layout), we managed to create space for a large built-in wardrobe for clothes and everyday items. An eclectic mix of a green sofa bed, selected antique furniture, and a rug in a vintage-modern style complete the interior, lending it a unique character. This space meets real needs and lifestyle, perfectly aligning with the design brief for this student apartment .
This apartment retains the charm of a Krakow tenement house, while offering a new quality of everyday life: functional, cozy and ideal for a young student.
